Overview

MedCycle Network redirects usable surplus medical supplies from healthcare facilities to safety-net clinics serving vulnerable populations. Their initial prototype was rapidly built using Lovable and Supabase (BaaS) to map out the user flow and demonstrate the visual layout.

To prepare the application for live operational environments, 26bitz engineered a dedicated custom backend from scratch. This transitioned the early design concepts into a secure, production-ready Minimum Viable Product (MVP), granting MedCycle Network 100% data ownership and the structured pipeline needed for future regulatory audits.

Challenges of Vibe-Coding

This project addresses a major emerging trend: modern teams frequently use AI-generative vibe-coding tools to build initial software versions. These platforms are excellent for quickly building prototypes, mapping out visual layouts, and testing ideas early on. However, while they are perfect for early experiments, moving to custom code for the MVP stage is a natural next step to avoid technical debt and scale smoothly.

We helped MedCycle Network resolved two specific scaling bottlenecks:

  • Compliance: Relying on a third-party backend infrastructure made it difficult to implement strict audit logs required for formal compliance.
  • Scalability: BaaS setup would not provide the structural flexibility and raw data pipelines required to train AI-learning algorithms for automated medical surplus demand forecasting and logistics optimization.

MVP in 6 Weeks

26bitz stepped in as a strategic technical partner to execute a focused development sprint, building an isolated backend on MedCycle Network's private AWS cloud infrastructure to turn their prototype into a scalable asset. We focused on:

  • Cloud Ownership: Hosted all clinic, catalog, and user metrics on private servers with automatic backups, enabling secure Role-Based Access Control (RBAC).
  • Frontend Preservation: Reused the existing visual interface design to protect the client's original development resources. By detaching it with surgical precision, we seamlessly brought the backend functionality for the Analytics and Offers modules fully online.
  • Admin Controls: Created a custom back-office panel for staff to manually manage database records, clinic approvals, and orders. This vital functionality makes the entire platform operational today, allowing admins to populate the database with available surplus so clinics can successfully submit requests.
  • Integration Readiness: Structured the database to easily connect third-party logistics (3PL) and automated Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) later.

Results

The MedCycle Delivers portal successfully transitioned from an early-stage concept to a stable MVP deployed directly onto the client's servers:

  • Production-ready Deployment: Solid operational backend foundation hosted on isolated cloud infrastructure.
  • 100% Asset Control: Full ownership and data sovereignty over all clinical and supply metrics.
  • Agile Engineering: Delivered on time within a 6-week window.
"26bitz has finalized the Supabase migration, and the entire app now runs on a custom backend. The team has set up the cloud infrastructure and deployed the app; it's now fully up and running. 26bitz has significantly improved application speed and loading times; it's now much faster. I'm impressed by 26bitz's clarity, quickness, and kindness. I don't think there's anything they can improve on; they've been amazing." — Eric Talbert, CEO & Co-Founder at MedCycle Network

What's Next

MedCycle Network is moving forward to fully automate surplus collection, classification, and distribution while streamlining clinic intake. The roadmap includes connecting the backend directly to downstream 3PL systems and deploying AI-driven demand forecasting models on top of their secure data pipeline.

Technology stack

Python, Django, PostgreSQL, Amazon Web Services (AWS RDS & EC2), ASGI Runtime, Server-Sent Events (SSE)
